These beautiful hand-dipped Mayan Candles & handmade bamboo baskets were crafted by the living decendants of the Maya Indians in a Guatemala Village. Prior to working
with the Mayan Artist Network and the Tribal Mall, the works from this Mayan family had been sold exclusively at craft stands in Guatemala villages.
The Maya World
The Maya saw the world as being square. The north was black, the south was white, the east was yellow, and the west was red. And the very center of the world
where they lived was green. 200 years ago, the Maya made candles from bee-wax which they collected from the forests. Today, the living Maya still use candles with
the colors of the world for religious and spriritual ceremonies.
Both the sm & lg candles come in handmade bamboo baskets approximately 8" & 6
1/2" in diameter. The candles are handipped and handtied together. The large candles come in 4 hand-tied bundles of 12 each in the five colors (black, white, yellow,
red & green). The small candles come in 2 hand-tied bundles of 20 each in the five colors (black, white, yellow, red & green).
These brightly colored candles have been used by the Mayan Indians for centuries for religious & spiritual ceremonies in the village.
